Can I get a low number available in my county?

The 10 lowest numbers in each county will be auctioned online in the last ten days of February 2026. More information will be available on this page as details are finalized.

Can I get a lower number if I already have a UW License Plate?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Either through the auction or separately upon its completion, you can submit an application and payment through the WYDOT website (https://www.dot.state.wy.us/home/titles_plates_registration/specialty_plates/University_of_Wyoming.html). The county office will contact you when the new plates arrive and you can exchange your old plates at that time.

If I want to exchange my current plates, will payment be required?

Yes, anyone who would like to exchange for a lower number will need to pay the full amount for a new set of plates.

Do I have to wait for my current plates to expire?

Accepted Answer

Wyoming drivers do not have to wait for their current license plates to expire to be eligible to bid on these plates. WYDOT will mail the plates to the county listed on the license plate, where the winner will register their vehicle with the new plate. Current plates will have to be surrendered. Other registration costs may apply.

Do I have to be a UW alum to purchase a UW plate?

Not at all! You don't need to be a UW alum to apply for the UW Plate. Whether you're a proud alum, a dedicated supporter, or simply a fan of UW, you're welcome to order and display these distinctive plates.

Can UW License Plates be used on a passenger vehicle or pickup truck?

Accepted Answer

Yes, UW License Plates can be put on EITHER a passenger vehicle or pickup truck. One number per vehicle, no duplicate numbers exist.
